Third town founded in 1514 by the Spaniards as Villa de la Santísima Trinidad. Known as the city-museum of the Caribbean and one of the best conserved in the Americas, it was declared, alongside the famous Valle de los Ingenios, a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
