Ciego de Ávila is located at the east of the central region, with the location between 20° 50’, 22°41’ north latitude and the 78°04’, 79°08’ west length. It limits on north with the Old Canal of Bahamas, at south with the Ana María gulf, at east with the Province of Camagüey and at west with the province of Sancti Spíritus. The relief in Ciego de Ávila is mainly flat, occupying the most of the surface the Júcaro-Morón plain which is interrupted by small isolated elevations like Loma of Cunagua with 332 m, Loma La Carolina with 84 m and Lomas of Turiguanó with 105 m. The surface of its shores are totally formed by the plains and it presents a wide insular platform bordered by Cays, at the north the Sabana-Camagüey archipelago (Jardines del Rey) and the southeast the Jardines de la Reina archipelago, both with great natural beauty. Ciego de Avila counts with dozens of kilometers of high quality beaches.

Ciego de Avila has plenty of sub-terrain water. Its hydrographic system is constituted by 12 basins, 3 of them have the main provincial interest. The Itabo with 522 Km2 is the biggest; also highlights Chambas with 376 Km2 and La Yana-Cimarrones-Roble with 1555 Km2. Their main lagoons are La Leche lagoon, which is the biggest in Cuba with 67 km² and La Redonda.
The largest reservoir is the Hydro Set Liberación of Florencia.
The main rivers of the region are the Majagua 72 Km and the Chambas 68 Km. On the other hand, in the north of the Morón municipality is located a lacustrine and swampy zone that houses numerous lagoons.
