According to Ivis Fernández, Delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Matanzas province, tourism in Varadero is prepared and ready for a reopening of excellence.

Fernández pointed out that the tourist facilities in this famous resort are ready for resuming the activities with the international market as soon as conditions allow it, under the hygienic and sanitary measures established by the government. “Varadero is a safe destination. We know the important role that tourism plays for the nation’s development, and this opening, when it is indicated by the competent authorities, will be full of hard work so we must keep preparing”, she stressed.

Besides the large number of maintenance works on different facilities in order to take advantage from the limited presence of vacationers because of the epidemiologic situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, workers of the sector carry out other initiatives, for instance, orchards have been spread all over a thirtieth hotels areas, assisted by their own workers, with crops of vegetables and aromatic plants, in support of the call made by the Cuban government to seed every idle space for producing food.

Varadero, the largest and most important sun and beach destination in Cuba is immersed into an investment program of works to complete a product so as to satisfy national and foreign visitors. One of them is the overhaul repair of Plaza América Conference Center, facility that will host the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba) 2021 on May 2021, the main Cuban commercial portfolio of the so called ‘leisure industry’.

Plaza América, under exploitation since more than two decades, is a two-storey building that on its first floor counts on 25 shops, cafeterias, restaurants and other facilities and on the upper floor 7 living rooms, including a plenary hall, of 1500 people capacity. Osvaldo Hernández, in charge of the investment program, pointed out that the hard works have been linked to the whole change of tiles from the floor, and he expects that the building’s reviving concludes on December 2020.

Varadero locates on Hicacos peninsula on the northern coast of Matanzas province and at 140 km from the east of Havana. Its beach is considered as the second best in the world, according to international surveys. It counts on one-hundredth and a half hotels which gather more than 22 thousand rooms devoted to the so called smokeless industry, and possesses varied extra hotel network with large recreational options, especially those dedicated to nautical sports.
