Transport in Artemisa

The  Habana-Pinar del Río Highway crosses Artemisa  from northeast to southwest. This main road runs also through 6 municipalities. The  old Central Highway connects directly the municipal capitals of Bauta, Caimito, Guanajay, Candelaria and San Cristóbal with the provincial capital. Artemisa occupies a central position in the territory, with excellent road communications with all the municipalities. It is located just 29 km from the center of the City of Havana.

The Western Railway Havana to Guane, Pinar del Río, crosses the municipalities of Güira de Melena, Alquízar, Artemisa, Candelaria and San Cristóbal. A branch line of this railway links San Antonio de los Baños with the City of Havana). Passenger trains operate along the Pinar del Río Railway and there are also train  services Havana-Artemisa and Habana-San Antonio. The  sugar mill railways have gradually disappeared, along with the contraction of the sugar industry. There are railway networks that serve the "Abraham Lincoln" sugar mill,  in Artemisa and "30 de Noviembre" sugar mill,  in San Cristóbal.Read more...
