USEFUL TIPS FOR THE TRAVELER
The national currency in Cuba is the Cuban Peso (CUP). Although you can pay for some services with MLC (Freely convertible currency). Always change in CADECA (official exchange houses) or in Banks, avoid changing with unauthorized persons for these purposes.

US dollars (USD) will not be accepted, at the Exchange Houses (CADECA) it will be possible to exchange the currencies of Canadian dollar (CAD), Swiss franc (CHF), euro (EUR), British pound (GBP), Japanese yen (JPY) ) and Mexican pesos (MXN).

The cards that operate in Cuba are: VISA, MASTERCARD, American International Service (AIS), not issued by institutions or banks in the United States or offices of these institutions in other countries. Prepaid cards may be requested in MLC at Credit and Commerce Bank (BANDEC) and Currency Exchange Houses (CADECA) and can be purchased in any currency.

Prepaid cards in MLC (freely convertible currency)

- The prepaid card is designed exclusively for travelers and tourists visiting Cuba. They are only valid in Cuban national territory. They can be loaded with cash amounts of $ 1,000, $ 500, or $ 200. They can be used in the commercial network in freely convertible currency MLC, to acquire goods and services until the amount that has been entered is exhausted.

- Cash withdrawals can only be made in Cuban pesos (CUP), in the country's ATM network. If you have a balance left on your card when you leave Cuba, you can request it at CADECA at the airport. Doubts, clarification or loss of card, should be communicated to the number 80201996 or by going to any BANDEC branch in the country.

 

The Cuban peso (CUP) is the legal tender in Cuba and prepaid cards at MLC.
