Cuban literature in Cienfuegos
Cienfuegos literary creation has been prolific from beginnings of the seventeenth century to the present. Among the most outstanding exponents of Cienfuegos literature are Clotilde del Carmen Rodríguez, known as La Hija del Damují, who was the first person born in Cienfuegos to dedicate herself to poetry and creator of the city's flag. Antonio Hurtado del Valle, Adelaida Sainz de la Peña, Mercedes Matamoros, Aurelia Castillo de González, are other famous poets and writers of the beautiful southern pearl.
Currently, literary creation is encouraged in Cienfuegos through workshops, clubs, exhibitions, and through the publishers Mecenas and Reina del Mar.
