City

Pinar del Río, name that from the Spanish toponym alludes to the geographic space in which the first settlers settled, is one of the most privileged territories because of its variety of natural and cultural resources. This city presents itself modest, neoclassical, and eclectic, with a mixture of portals with columns, criollísimas red tiles, capitals, windows and doors with two leaves.

In 1859, it became a town and given the development it achieved, on September 10, 1867 was granted by Royal Decree of the Queen of Spain, Elizabeth II, the title of "City." On July 9, 1878, the province of Pinar del Río was formed.
