One of the most significant islets for recreation is: Jutías cay, united to the mainland by a stone of fifteen kilometers. Located in a fishing area, it is su-rrounded by a lush nature; four and a half kilometers of unspoiled beach with white-creamy medium-fine grain sands and unusual landscape richness that allows the development of nautical activities, diving and bird watching.
Species of the most diverse colors, types and size coexist in total harmony with man, from the Dogfish (Lachnolaimus maximus), the Surgeons (Acanthurus coeruleus), and the Black Cachamas (Pomacanthus caru). The most abundant corals are: Orejón (Acropora palmata), Fire (Millapora complanata), Digital (Porites porites) and Brain (Colpophyllia natans).
Levisa Cay is reached by sea, one and a half kilometers from Palma Rubia on the north coast, located forty-five kilometers from Viñales. It has a beach three kilometers long, there are another five kilometers of low bottoms on the island platform, with depths between three and six meters. The invitation to dive allows receiving courses of initiation and the practice of the same in a total of twenty three sites of the insular platform. There are plant and coral formations such as: Star coral (Montastrea anularis), Cacho and venao (Acropora cervicornis), and Sea fans (Gorgonia ventalina). In the canto del veril the walls reach the forty meters, fascinating to immerse in the practice of the snorkeling in the coral barrier, or of nautical sports.
The westernmost part of the island has one of the best seabed beaches in all of Cuba, María la Gorda, where the International Diving Center is located. There inhabit numerous species of coral, among them the greatest colony of black coral of the seas stands out. The seabed in this area has the clearest and most colorful contrasts for the practice of underwater photography. The transparency of the water allows a visibility of 30 m in length and 30 m in depth. The marine platform is very narrow and ends near the coast with depths between 200 m and 1 000 m. The average temperature of the water throughout the year is 28ºC.
