As of Thursday, August 4, 2022, the Central Bank of Cuba implemented the purchase of freely convertible currency (which is quoted in: Euro, American Dollar, Mexican Peso, Japanese Yen, British Pound, Swiss Franc and Canadian Dollar) in the entire network of offices of Exchange Houses (CADECA) located in international airports as well as in the branches of all banks.

The new exchange rate that will be applied in correspondence with the market, varies daily and can be consulted on the CADECA official website, which also has an automatic converter so that you know the cash in national currency that will be delivered to you. With this service, greater security guarantees are provided to the client.

In Las Tunas you can access the banking services of International Finance Bank, Popular Saving Bank and Bank of Credit and Commerce with central branches and a team of professionals who provide personalized attention. Likewise, several banks have ATMs enabled.

In Cuba, you can enter any foreign currency accepted by the Central Bank of Cuba to be exchanged for Cuban pesos (CUP): euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars, Swiss francs, Mexican pesos, and Japanese yen; except US dollars USD. The Cuban Peso is not valid or exchangeable outside Cuban territory, so upon your departure you must change it to the currency you deem convenient.

The Russian payment system began to be implemented at ATMs in Havana on March 13. The Cuban banking system directly recognizes Russian cards and the ruble as a convertible currency.

You can make currency exchange at any of these branches or at Exchange Houses. Credit cards that have not been issued by United States banks also work for the procedures you wish to carry out. Visa, MasterCard, PostePay, Access, EuroCard, among others are often used, although the use of cash has not been eliminated from several services.

A novelty presented by the banking services are the prepaid cards in MLC (Freely Convertible Currency) to be used in Cuba with a validity of two years; and they allow trading in foreign currency, through POS (Point of Sale Terminal). Prepaid cards may be used in the commercial network in freely convertible currency MLC, to acquire goods and services until the amount that has been deposited is exhausted. International travelers who are not residents of Cuba can access these cards through the exchange offices located in the cities of Las Tunas and Puerto Padre. 200, 500 and 1000 MLC cards can be purchased, upon presentation of the identification document (passport). The deposit must be made in cash in freely convertible currency (MLC), except American dollars. Deposits or transfers are not accepted from abroad, or between similar cards that operate in dollars. Once the amount loaded on the prepaid card has been exhausted, it will stop working until it is reloaded, but they expire according to the expiration date that will be reflected printed on the card, having a validity of 2 years.
