Visual Arts in Las Tunas, Cuba
Many consider Las Tunas the mecca of the national sculpture movement. Encounters between the most illustrious sculptors of the Revolutionary Period were held here, resulting in the agreement of donating pieces to embellish the province. This led to the Sculpture movement’s posterior boom.
On June 25, 1982, the now late Cuban sculptor Rita Longa inaugurated in Las Tunas the first sculpture museum-workshop in the country to show what the plastic artists were doing back then.
