Cultural Events in Las Tunas
“Rita Longa” Sculpture Biennial
The Biennials are the ideal place to rescue the sculptural tradition of Las Tunas. Through practical workshops various works are created to brighten the city environment and to embellish streets, parks, squares and places. Each year the participants donate their works, which are located in different places of the city. All this reaffirms the condition of Las Tunas as the Capital of Cuban Sculpture.
Cucalambeana Event
The Cucalambeana is a great cultural event in Cuba. It has been a living expression of artistic creation and socio-cultural life in rural areas. It is celebrated every year at the end of June, and its main headquarter is Finca El Cornito, place where Juan Cristóbal Napoles and Fajardo lived (El Cucalambé), decimista par excellence.
This event in Las Tunas has an authentic countryside origin, capable of promoting the popular, poetic and artistic feeling in the Ibero-American area.
There are spaces reserved for the election of the Birama Flower, a beauty contest and one of the most ingrained activities, as young girls from all the Cuban provinces compete to represent the physical and spiritual beauty of women.
Improvisation, peasant games, typical foods, dances and music, crafts, landscapes and much more can be found in this Supreme Party. It is the moment to discover the traditions, and the way of life of the Cuban peasant, to enjoy its poetry, to admire the typical costumes and to be ecstatic with the great fun that is the Cucalambeana.
