Juan Cristobal Napoles Fajardo.
Distinguished Cuban poet that cultivated the decima (poetic form) in the XIX century; he expressed himself in literary movements like the siboneismo and criollismo. In 1856 he published his poetry book called Rumores del Hormigo, considered a classic of the lyric poetry in Cuba. He was known as the Cucalambe, which means black people dance. His play Consecuencias de Una Falta, a drama in four acts written in verse, is also well-known.

This writer was born in Las Tunas on February 10th, 1952. Guillermo shines because of its narrative, which includes tales like Otro Canto del Gallo, Se Permuta Esta Casa and Confabulacion de la Araña. He won awards with novellas like Las Manzanas del Paraiso (Dominican Republic Casa Teatro International Award) and La Saga del Perseguido (Alejo Carpentier Prize), a tribute to the highest figure of the tunera culture and author of over 10 books; in 2006, the Guillermo Vidal Ortiz National Award of Narrative was created. This is an annual award.
